Mourners cross to Thailand’s Grand Palace to remember HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana, who died after a long battle with cancer, January 2, 2008. HM King Bhumibol declared 100 days of mourning for the princess. Buses arrive at Bangkok’s Grand Palace each day, carrying black-clad Thais to pay their final respects to the princess. Royals from around the world have visited Thailand to pass along their condolences.

The 84-year-old elder sister of Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej was deeply involved in Thai arts and music, sports, education and social welfare, and respected by Thailand’s citizens.

HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana was born in London in 1923, and educated in Switzerland. She took up her royal duties in 1927 when her brother HM King Prajadhipok, the previous king, ascended the throne.
